Start A Movement – Follow A Leader
Our friend Jeff Paro with InfluenceOlogy.com posted a video on his leadership blog that shows a movement being started in under three minutes.
While the MRev movement has been built on foundation of strong personalities that are passionate about leading and influencing a positive change in their businesses and communities, it is certainly a balancing act at times maintaining a humble grass-roots focus in such an ego-centric industry.
Nobody wants to be labeled as a follower, yet being called a nut for standing out in a crowd doesn’t site well for most of us either.
However, if you notice from this video, the original dancing guy appeared to care more about what he felt was right at the moment, than how he was perceived by his peers.
He didn’t wait until his friends were committed to dancing with him before he stood up, he just felt inspired to do something and he acted.
Motion Creates Emotion
Social Proof, documented results, personal branding, media support and main stream acceptance didn’t seem to matter to the second guy when he caught the vibe as well.
When I watched this video, I thought about some of the opportunities I have around me to help the people in my community whom are doing the right things, regardless of what others think.
Forget about the co-branding, strategic relationship building or leadership positioning angles for a moment, and focus solely on helping build momentum for something that is larger than any one individual.
Either way, we sincerely appreciate the support that the industry has poured out for MRev.
With at least three more live events on the board for the next 12 months, it’s encouraging to see what can happen when a few people are willing to get up and embarrass themselves in front of a crowd.
We’ve stated since the beginning that we’ll end MRev when it stops being fun. The past 14 months has been an exciting and life changing experience for me. Thank you.
I’d love to hear about some stories that I can post on our blog about how you have stepped up in your cities to support or start a movement.
